The Homepage

Andreas Engel, CD

This is my personal project and webpage that I started when I 'retired' from being webmaster at another site.  I've had the pleasure of creating and maintaining the Hastings and Prince Edward regimental website for some years until some folks thought they'd do a better job and 'refresh' things.  Interesting results...

I have come to enjoy doing this sort of thing and plan to keep my hand in it.  It's actually quite a job to keep enough knowledge in between the head set to be able to make something like this work as it should.  For the majority of webmasters,  the 'simple' days of http and plain CGI scripting are gone forever.  Now there's CSS, PHP, Java, Flash,  HTTPS, Super http,  Rocket Science http and more crap than you could possibly imagine. All of these serve to make websites flashier and slicker looking than ever.  Problem is, they also slow-w-w-w-w-w things way down and can crash your browser if everything isn't just perfect.  Funny thing is that at the end of it all,  the majority of websites show a few pictures and some text.  For that, you don't need all the above mentioned garbage and leaving Flash out of your page means no winkie-blinkie advertising crap when you go visit other pages plus you don't need a graduate degree in web-authoring to create a perfectly functional and attractive website.

This project is ongoing. The guest book is now functional.  It will be interesting to see who makes their way here...
